Wheels For The World

Ireland Outreach has been given the opportunity to expand the Joni and Friends International Disability Center Ministries (JAF) to Nigeria. Through the Wheel for the World Program JAF provided 200 wheelchairs to be distributed at three mission hospital  location in Nigeria. The first 67 are scheduled to be presented on April 9, 2016 from the Hope Haven Hospital and the Haven of Hope Centre east of Jos.

JAF refurbishes wheelchairs and then with ministry partners distributes them throughout the world. Once theses 200 chairs were refurbished (really the look like brand new) the loaded them into a container, had them placed aboard a cargo ship bound for Lagos, Nigeria.  JAF handled all the logistics and paperwork for the shipping and clearing customs in Nigeria.  Jim Gillett and the staff at the Haven of Hope made arrangements to have them transported to the Haven of Hope where the container was opened and 133 of the chairs were sent to two other mission medical facilities for distribution.  67 of the chairs were retained at Hope Haven Hospital and readied for distribution.  Each recipient selected to benefit from the provision was then personally fitted to the chair they will receive. Final adjustments were made by trained technicians to ensure complete compatibility for the person and the chair.  The chairs were then labeled with the recipient’s name and picture in preparation for the scheduled April 9th presentation and distribution.  The names and the pictures have allowed the staff for recognize and pray for each of the individuals.

On April 9th each person receiving a chair will also be presented with their own personal Bible, hear a personal, one on one gospel presentation, be provided with Christian literature as well as instruction on the care and operation of the chairs. Follow evangelism by staff from the Haven of Hope will continue to support the individuals both physicall and spritually.

It is truly and honor to be able to help JAF to extend their Wheels for the World ministry to yet another location of the globe in their goal to distribute 100,000 wheelchairs worldwide by 2020.  Check out their website and see how you can become part of their goal to show God’s love while meeting the physical needs of those who would never be able to obtain a chair.  See how lives are being changed and how you can be a part.
